The Dreamy Island of Hawkins: When Stranger Things Meets Animal Crossing

With Stranger Things coming to an end with the season 5 finale finishing today I thought I’d celebrate by visiting a Stranger Things related Animal Crossing: New Horizons island. This island was created by Sou (@byler-going-crazy-together) on Tumblr.

Here’s what Sou said on their post whilst sharing their dream address:

In case you’re not familiar with Stranger Things or need a reference photo of what the real things look like in the show, there will be reference photos taken from Google for a side by side comparsion so you can see what an amazing job Sou has done by recreating Hawkins in Animal Crossing. 🙂

The island rep for this island is Mike followed by Will and of course El (Eleven). I think the animal residents were chosen specifically for this island too, for example— I’m pretty sure Raddle is meant to be Papa based around Hawkins Lab.

The entrance for this island is the 4th of July carnival (Roane County Fair).

The funfair is absolutely giant and amazingly done! It really does feel like you’re a kid being amazed by all of the fairground rides whilst exploring this section. 😮

The food here by the trucks looked delicious! I wouldn’t mind stopping here for a bite to eat after riding some of the rides. 🙂

A bit north of those food trucks is Palace Arcade, another place I wouldn’t mind staying at to chill and have some fun at! I love arcades in real life so I could totally vibe here. The custom design for Palace Arcade was actually created by Sou too which you can pick up by the creator portal if you’re interested in that.

I came across Castle Byers followed by the Byers’ residence shortly after. 🙂

Before we go inside of their home, there is this little pretty view at the back of their home with a log you can sit on and admire the view from.

I think one of the most iconic and memoriable parts of Stranger Things for me is the lights on the walls followed by the alphabet that Joyce used to communicate with Will when he was in the upside down that you can see recreated in the Byers’ residence lounge.

For the Byers’ kitchen I oddly enough couldn’t really find any reference photos of what it looked like for some strange reason. :/

I think the kitchen does perfectly match that 1980’s vibe though! Especially that wallpaper. 😉

The bathroom is a pretty faithful recreation, I love how Sou made use of those walls from the HHP DLC to make the bathroom feel a lot more smaller as the Bryers’ household is a lot smaller compared to the other homes in Hawkins.

Up next is Will’s bedroom, I think?

It’s, again, really hard to find photos of his bedroom for some strange reason. The only reference I could find was from this YouTube video which is actually a scene from season 4, not season 3. But in that video you can see the room that is being recreated in AC:NH.

I found a cabin a littler further back from the Byers’ residence which I believe is Hopper’s cabin where he and Eleven live. But this is Teddy’s home in the AC:NH universe. 🙂

And if you walk down from the cabin there is a Demogorgon lurking around in the woods! 😮

If you go back past the Byers’ residence you’ll find Hawkins laboratory and can go inside of it. I found El outside of it actually and spoke to her before going inside.

The front room of the lab was unsettling, I think a demogorgon has been on a rampage already. Also a side note for this room, I didn’t notice that the pipe was in the back of this room to the right so I completely missed it when vistiting. If you use the pipe, it takes you to an amazing scenic view of the lab outside!

Upstairs is the rainbow room.

Because I completely accidently missed the green pipe I wasn’t able to view the full scenic view of the lab but you can see it a little in this screenshot. I think that it’s awesome that Sou made the lab shaped on the map a plus to match the building from the show too! The attention to detail is truly amazing. 🙂

I also bumped into Mike after leaving Hawkins lab.

I really love the city landscaping done to this island, it really does feel like you’re visiting a small town/city in this dream address.

Hawkins community pool that Billy worked at! Buzz lives here, I guess he’s meant to be Billy? 🙂

Next door to the community pool is Hawkins elementary school and a playground.

Next after the school is the Wheeler residence.

I love Nancy’s bedroom so I instantly fell in love with the recreation of her bedroom on this island. ❤

I love how there’s a photo of her and Barb in this photo frame. 🥺

The next room is the Wheeler living room. Super cozy.

Upstairs is Mike’s bedroom.

And lastly, the basement where they all come together to play DnD. 🙂

And leaving the Wheeler home I bumped into Will, finally! Who asked a very important question…

Heading back to residental services is where the final HUGE build of this island is, Starcourt Mall!

Inside of the mall were a few shops I recognised, like Scoops, Ahoy! the ice cream parlour that Robin and Steve worked at, the cinema and the clothing store Max and Eleven went into.
