If you’ve played Animal Crossing: New Horizons then you probably remember the infamous “Star Fragment Trees” but how cool would it be to have the iconic present items growing on trees? Since posting a few photos of my towns online, I have been asked how to achieve the beautiful present trees. Well, in this guide I’ll be sharing how to achieve them so you too can have cute little present trees in your own town! Not only will you be able to have presents growing on trees, but anything can be put onto trees as well! Your imagination can run wild and being be as creative with town customisation as you’d like.
What You’ll Need
Firstly, these trees are only obtainable from having a modded 3DS and having the vapecord plugin installed. So if your system is not modded then you’ll unfortunately not be able to have these cute trees in your town. I highly recommend modding your 3DS if you haven’t already, especially due to the Nintendo servers being turned offline since April 2024. Having a modded 3DS not only lets you mod your games but will allow you get back online and playing with other players around the globe including Animal Crossing: New Leaf by Pretendo support once the fan servers are up and running.
You can install vapecord via the universal updater app on your console or via it’s official GitHub page, do whichever is easier for you!
How to Obtain The Present Trees
To get these trees into your town you’ll be using the vapecord plugin. To start, make sure to have any fruit trees planted in your town, all fruit trees in your town will become a present so it doesn’t matter what fruit tree you have planted.
Boot up the vapecord plugin using the SELECT button and navigate to “seeding codes”.
Then, navigate to “tree codes”.
Then navigate to “fruit tree item modifier” and make sure to press the A button to enable it.
Once that’s enabled, exit vapecord menu. Once exited, press the A button and d-pad left button at the same time to open the fruit tree item modifier menu— this menu will prompt you into entering some letters and numbers, this is where we will enter the item ID to change the fruit into cute little presents.
Now you’re going to enter the item ID, for present trees the item ID will be “2036”.
Once you’ve entered the item ID, go inside and outside of a nearby building or alternatively run away from your fruit trees so that they’re out of view and despawn then run back to them so that they spawn back in, now they’ll be cute present trees!
Unfortunately because this is a plugin one you exit the game and boot it back up your normal standard fruit will be back and not the presents/any other items on the trees so you will need to repeat this every time you boot up Animal Crossing: New Leaf.
How to Make Trees Other Items?
As I mentioned earlier, you can use this method to replace fruits with any item of your liking! I use the exact same method to fit my town aesthetics like in Meadow I have these delicious cute cake trees!
To get any other item instead of present trees you’re gonna want to find the item ID of the item you want on your trees. There is two amazing websites I personally use to find the item ID for this, you can find them here and here.
Boot up the vapecord menu like before and instead of putting “2036” put in the item ID that you want, so for this example I’ll use the ID of chocolate coins so I’ll input the item ID of “33A6”.
Again, go inside and outside of any nearby building or alternatively run away from your fruit trees so that they despawn and reload and voila! You’ll have your own item ID trees like my chocolate coin trees!
Also yes, if you shake these trees the respective item will fall down, so if you shook present trees you’ll be able to pick the presents up and unwrap them. If you shook the chocolate coin trees you’d be able to eat the chocolate coins and so on and so forth.
Remember that if you close AC:NL you’ll have to redo all of the steps to get these trees back as they’re not permanent!
